The LIBS pressure housing after a long period of designing and manufacturing has started its journey for integration and preliminary testing. Kicking off its journey from the premises of ALS Marine Consultants, the LIBS pressure housing is making its first stop to Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V (LZH) for incorporating and validating the LIBS system. There, the LIBS equipment will be mounted on the housing’s chassis, the appropriate connections with all ealslectronics and the connectors will be established and thereafter, all housing components will come into one piece. In addition, validation testing of the viewport endcap and its sapphire glass will be performed. The next stop will be GEOMAR, in Kiel and their pressure chamber whereas the pressure test will be carried out. During this test, the pressure housing itself, without the LIBS system, will be tested to an operating pressure of 600 bar (X Safety factor) whereas it’s structural response and integrity, will be accessed. Ultimately, the pressure housing will continue its journey to the final destination of deep waters in the Pacific Ocean within the next months to come.
